Getting Started

Welcome to our Online Gym Induction page.

Online Induction

A gym induction is a small guide for our fitness equipment, making sure you can use the full range of equipment we have on offer safely and correctly, giving you the best results possible.

Our gym induction is completed online, but if you need assistance with any equipment at Active Nottingham please speak to a member of the centre team who will be happy to help.

If you’re looking to use the equipment at our gyms within an Active Nottingham leisure centre, you will need to watch our online gym induction video first. If you’re visiting the leisure centres for another activity, such as a Fitness Class, you do not need a gym induction before attending.

What should I wear to the gym and is there etiquette?

  • You don’t need to be decked out in the latest workout gear or trainers to use the gym, just be sure your clothes and footwear are suitable for working out (definitely no flip flops!).
  • Make sure you bring a water bottle and a towel (we have water fountains to refill) and using a towel is hygienic too as it shows respect to your other gym goers, who want to use and enjoy the equipment after you. If you prefer, we also have cleaning wipes dotted around the gyms for you to use after your workout on each piece of equipment.
  • Put your weights and equipment away when you’re finished with them – if you’re strong enough to lift it, you’re strong enough to put it back.
  • No phones on the gym floor or changing rooms. We understand you want to check your form and take pictures of yourself, but it can be intimidating to other gym users.
  • It’s essential to choose the time you visit our gyms wisely. Peak times at city gyms tend to be early morning, lunch and evenings, while our other locations have a slightly later peak period (if you’re going to a fitness class, be early to make sure you get the spot in the fitness studio that you like – especially if the class is popular – if you’re more than 5 minutes late, be aware the fitness instructor may not allow you entry as you’ll cause more disruption to the class).
