Lane swimming

For those aged 14+ to swim lengths. Fast, medium and slow speed lanes will be available. No butterfly stroke permitted.

Fast lane swimming

A swim for those aged 14+ to swim lengths. Fast lanes only. Suitable for club level and performance swimmers. No butterfly stroke permitted. Maximum of 6 swimmers per lane.

Family Zone Swimming

A fun swimming session in your own designated area of the pool. Can only be attended by a maximum of 6 people in the same household/bubble. Click or tap for more information.

Relaxation swimming

For adults aged 17+ to swim at a relaxed pace in a designated lane(s).

A session for children, young people and families. A more lively session, taking place in the main pool only.

Guidance for public swimming

General information:

  • Shower at home before and after your swim.*
  • Arrive beach-ready – changing facilities are available on exit only. Swimmers can remove and store their outer layer of clothing in a locker.
  • Follow centre and pool instructions for using the centre.

In the centre:

  • Follow all guidance from the team.
  • Follow one-way systems and pay attention to signage.
  • Make regular use of hand-washing facilities/sanitiser stations.
  • No spectators are allowed for lane swimming.

In the pool:

  • Follow directions for entry and exit and throughout your visit.
  • Choose the correct lane to swim for your own ability. Change lanes if you find you are in the wrong lane.
  • No overtaking while swimming.
  • Check distance in front before pushing off from the side.
  • Follow the advice and guidance of lifeguards and other team members.
  • Our flumes at Clifton and Southglade Leisure Centres remain closed, in line with government guidance.


  • Respect others who are of different standards and abilities.
  • Avoid physical contact with other users.
  • Maintain social distancing at all times.
  • When the pool is busy, wide strokes such as butterfly should be avoided.
  • Change lanes depending on stroke and speed, adhering to the six per lane maximum.
  • Keep at the wall when using resting points. Other swimmers may keep on swimming without stopping, so turn your head away from others to maintain social distancing.


  • Stay hydrated by bringing your own pre-filled water bottle to the poolside during your swim.
  • Bring your own equipment, such as floats.
*In accordance with the latest government guidance, shower facilities are limited to people with disabilities. Please notify a member of staff when you arrive if you need to access these facilities.

Guidance for Swim School lessons

General information:

  • Please arrive no earlier than ten minutes before your session and leave the site as soon as possible at the end to help us accommodate the next group.
  • Please follow the signs to help you navigate around the centre for quick entry and exit. You may be asked to take different routes to those you are used to. There is clear signage to poolside and to the holding areas, pre-session.
  • There will be concierge staff on hand to welcome you, point you in the right direction and help with any questions you might have.
  • Make sure you bring a pre-filled water bottle as our water dispensers, vending machines and cafes will not be open initially.
  • Class sizes have been reduced to enable social distancing and are based on ratios linked to the size of pool area so these will vary from centre to centre.

Swimmer information:

  • Please arrive beach-ready.  Swimmers should shower at home before and after each swim.*
  • Take your child to a space in the holding area. Help them remove their outdoor clothes and get ready to swim. Take all spare kit with you and watch from one of the assigned spectator areas.
  • Adults, please change near lockers, same as guidance for public swimming.
  • At the end of the session, return to collect your child and assist with changing and dressing in the cubicle areas.
  • Please wait to shower until you return home.

Spectator information:

  • No spectators are allowed for lane swimming and only one spectator per participant for Swim School lessons.
  • Parents/spectators are advised to bring a clean, spare pair of suitable footwear.
  • Please wear a face mask in the centre if you are not taking part in the lesson.
  • Please remember to wash or sanitise your hands regularly.
