Coronavirus (COVID-19)

Important information for Active Nottingham customers.

Opening to begin from 27 July

We’re so excited to see you!

UPDATE: Fri 24.07.20

Reopening to happen in phases

We’ll be welcoming you back from Monday 27 July, with a phased reopening of our centres and some changes to our opening times, activities and facilities.

You must book to visit, and booking will open on our app, website, or by phone at midday today (24 July).

A huge amount of preparation has taken place over the past few months to get ready for reopening with a host of changes in place to ensure public safety.

The following centres will open again on Monday 27 July for gym, fitness classes and group cycling:

  • Harvey Hadden Sports Village (Bilborough)
  • Nottingham Tennis Centre (Lenton)
  • Southglade Leisure Centre (Bestwood)
  • Clifton Leisure Centre

Meanwhile, adult and junior play tennis coaching, social tennis and indoor tennis will restart at the tennis centre. Outdoor activity successfully opened up last month and has proved very popular.

Other centres and services will reopen over the next few weeks.

More ways to workout – we’re working towards opening Active Nottingham indoor facilities from 27 July

We started our staged reopening of Active Nottingham with outdoor tennis, which has been very popular on sunny days. We then launched Active Nottingham Live, streaming classes from Harvey Hadden Sports Village to you at home.

Now, with the recent update from government, we are looking forward to seeing even more of you when we start welcoming customers back into our centres from Monday 27th July.

We are adapting our centres and working to prepare to our leisure centres to provide ‘Covid-Secure’ fitness facilities for you and our staff.

High safety and hygiene standards

Restart plans for our leisure facilities centre on ensuring we have clean and safe facilities that give customers plenty of space to enjoy exercising and our staff confidence in their safety at work.

Our centres are currently being prepared to meet all safety requirements of social distancing, maximum capacities, and increased cleanliness – ready for you to enjoy.

Keeping fit the new way

We are being creative in how we use our spaces to provide the best customer experience in the current situation.

We are adapting and re-purpose existing indoor and outdoor spaces to serve larger groups of exercisers safely. We will be able to offer our services in repurposed facilities such as adaptable studio spaces, sports halls, and outdoor areas.

We look forward to welcoming you back into our centres and learning how we can best serve you whilst maintaining safety. We will be constantly reviewing our services as we progress through the reopening process.

Download our app

There will be adjusted opening times and pre-booking will be mandatory. This allows us to control the flow of people in and out the centres to keep you safe.

You can’t visit a centre without booking and pre-paying – you will need an Active Nottingham account and we recommend downloading our updated app for convenient browsing and booking.

Search ‘NCC Sport’ in your app store.

UPDATE: Thu 09.07.20

Gyms and leisure given restart date

Following this evening’s news that government guidance is being updated to allow gyms and leisure to open from 25.07.20, we are working to respond appropriately. As a council service, any changes to our services must be subject to a thorough review and approved by our Councillors. The wellbeing of our service users and staff is at the centre of all decision making.

A great deal of thought, consultation, and hard work has gone into preparing our centres for opening under social distancing over the last few months. We are confident we will be well-prepared to open ‘Covid-Secure’ when we restart our leisure centres.

We are committed to keeping our staff and members informed and will release an update as soon as we have an approved plan of action in response to the government’s announcement. We don’t have a set restart date yet but will announce one soon.

UPDATE: Thu 24.06.20

Gyms and leisure to remain closed for now

Following Tuesday’s announcement that leisure centres and gyms will remain closed for now, we acknowledge that it is frustrating to our customers and staff not to have a set date. Active Nottingham will continue to update you and maintain communications.

Restart planning centres on ensuring we have clean and safe facilities that give customers plenty of space to enjoy exercising and our staff confidence in their safety at work. We have already begun a staged reopening of Active Nottingham with outdoor tennis, which has gone excellently, and this week we launched live-streamed exercise classes to join from home.

We have been adapting our centres and working towards reopening more of our facilities in early July, with 6th July as a provisional date. We now know this will not be our opening date. We will continue to prepare for restart, pending government confirmation, with the new anticipated time of mid-July in mind.

The great news is that we are going to continue to offer our Active Nottingham Live streamed online classes for free, with links posted to the Facebook events, and our backlog of classes will be available soon.

UPDATE: Thu 18.06.20

Be Active Nottingham Live – streamed fitness classes in your home

We were so pleased to be able to help you stay fit at home with our Home Workouts page. We’re now stepping it up a level and will soon launch streamable home fitness classes with our own fab instructors.

This is a great opportunity for members to get back into training again and to reengage with their favourite people and sessions.

We welcome new members to join in and meet our larger-than-life friendly Active Nottingham personalities!

Follow us on Facebook (don’t forget to ‘see first’) or subscribe to our newsletter to keep up to date. Get involved in our FREE taster classes by visiting the Facebook event 🙂

Direct Debit payments will only be restarted with notice when we reintroduce your activities

We implemented our Value Promise to ensure no member or customer was left out of pocket by the closure, and we keep our promises.

Memberships will only be restarted when the service they are using restarts (e.g. gyms and classes for Health and Fitness members), which is currently none of them.

Please be assured we’ll be writing out to members to notify them when their membership will be unfrozen. We’ll also provide plenty of advance notice of when your direct debit payments will resume.

Not feeling it yet?

That’s OK! We understand that returning to our facilities may not feel right for everybody when reopening happens. Members not ready to restart will have the option to keep their membership frozen. Even if you choose this, you can still:

  • Pay and play our available activities, if you want to dip your toe in
  • Buy our fabulous new digital membership that is soon to be announced…

UPDATE: Fri 22.05.20

We hope all of our members are keeping healthy and active during this period of closure. We miss you all, and we’re excited at the prospect of being able to welcome people back to some of our facilities in a responsible way.

Outdoor Tennis – Some courts available from Saturday 23rd May

We are delighted to make available some of the outdoor courts at our world-class tennis facility, Nottingham Tennis Centre, as part of the limited number of Nottingham City Council tennis courts being made available across the city from Saturday 23rd May 2020.

Tennis courts cost £10 per hour and are bookable same-day only on the LTA’s tennis booking platform ClubSpark. Advanced booking is compulsory – you can’t turn up and play.

To enjoy our outdoor tennis, which is socially distanced and subject to several conditions of use, please follow the Safe Tennis Guidelines.

In line with government guidance, all other Active Nottingham services remain closed.

Nottingham Tennis Centre’s indoor facilities remain closed, as are all our leisure centres. This means the majority of our staff continue to be furloughed and all Active Nottingham memberships are still frozen without charge, as per our Value Promise.

The wellbeing of customers and staff will remain at the forefront of all Nottingham City Council decisions on reopening.

UPDATE: Thu 26.03.2020

Having initially closed for four weeks, we are now closed until further notice.

This means you are unable to access any of our facilities and services, including our Customer Service Team. All classes and coaching sessions are cancelled until we re-open.

When we reopen, we will let you know.

Our staff are now being redeployed to other areas of Nottingham City Council, to support the mission of protecting our vulnerable citizens during the pandemic. Because of this, there is no longer anybody available to answer your queries via phone, email, or Messenger.

Everything you need to know regarding payment is covered in our Value Promise.

Stay safe. Stay home. Stay active.

Stay home. Stay Active.

We've got all sorts to help keep you moving while our leisure centres are closed.
