Sandie checks out group exercise on-demand at Victoria Leisure Centre ahead of launch!

Sep 29 2020

So today, I got to have a sneaky peek at Victoria Leisure Centres’ newest edition, in the form of an on-demand fitness screen and I can honestly say, I love it!

The studio has also been freshened up, with some new artwork on the walls and looks great!

What is Group Exercise On Demand?
It is exactly what it sounds like.  You simply book and turn up for the class and choose from a massive range of different workouts, via a touch screen in the studio, and the fitness class plays out on the big screen in front of you. Simple!

From October 5, they’ll be offering 15 new classes each week, some of which are already pre-determined, mainly yoga and relaxation classes, but the rest can be picked by us, the customers. How cool is that!

There really is a class to suit everyone, including core strengthening, dance, meditation; you name it, which does mean that there needs to be a bit of negotiation between class attendees, to collectively decide which class we are going to do.  However, if you are like me and just want to move after a full day sitting at the computer, and you are not that particular about what you are doing, it is perfect!

The sessions run for different durations too, so you could easily decide to do 2 x 20-minute workouts, focusing on different benefits, which keeps everyone happy!

What is also great, is that each class offers both high and low-impact moves, so you don’t need to be worried about it being too difficult, and you never know, you might find a new class to love!

Class sizes are a bit smaller than normal, due to COVID restrictions, but working out in the studio feels safe.  There are 2m2 markings on the floor, and foot mark stickers that clearly show your workout area, so you are never that close to anyone else.   We currently can’t use any equipment in the classes, so dumbbells etc. aren’t allowed, and it’s useful to bring your own mat, but in all honesty that doesn’t detract from what is a great new facility for the centre and one that I’ll definitely be booking onto regularly!

Sessions are free as part of my Active Nottingham monthly membership, but can also be booked as a “pay and play” customer.

To see what sessions are on, and when, check out the app, book online or call the Customer Contact Centre on 0115 8761600.
