What is Free Access for National Sports People (F.A.N.S)?

The Nottingham City Free Access for National Sportspeople (F.A.N.S) scheme is designed to give free access to Nottingham City Council leisure facilities for sportspeople who are competing at a national level i.e. currently representing their country in any age group.

The Scheme is an important Sports and Leisure Services initiative which aims to provide support and encouragement to the city’s leading talented and elite sport performers to assist with their ongoing training and rehabilitation from injury.

Who is eligible?

  • Only Sports performers competing at a national level can apply – for example, applicants must be in a national representative squad and competing at national-level championships/competitions.
  • Evidence confirming your involvement at a national level will be required from the appropriate governing body.
  • The Scheme is open to athletes representing any country, not just Great Britain.
  • Only sports listed within Sport England definitions are eligible (those can be checked online at www.sportengland.org and by searching for ‘recognised sports’).
  • The scheme is open to applicants of any age who meet the criteria, however under 16s will have restricted access for certain activities.
  • Applicants must live within Nottingham City Council’s local authority boundaries. If you are currently training in Nottingham city but living outside he city boundaries, you need to apply to the local authority you live in, who will operate a similar scheme.
  • For performers with a disability, the scheme is also extended to a ‘buddy’ who needs to attend with you and to assist with your training (this would need to be verified by a governing body).
